This site has finally reverted to the originator of the term
SKATEOLOGY
me,
Sid Broadbent
(Skater, Skateologist and Professional Engineer)
The term came into being with the initial printing of my manual of that name in 1985. It is revised regularly and still available with that enigmatic but simplistic title SKATEOLOGY. I further laid claim to the term with SKATEOLOGY titled articles in USFSA’s
Ice Skating Magazine in 1988
The term derived from a manual I wrote for the aerospace industry entitled Space Tribology. Tribology being the science of surfaces in sliding engagement - bearings, lubrication and the study of wear, abrasion and fretting corrosion etc.
And surely, doesn’t that science aptly apply to our sport of Ice Skating?
Curiously, I was applying my expertise to understanding my favourite sport scientifically and eventually set down my findings for posterity in a manual that would also supply instructions for my recently introduced ICEskate Sharpener - the first to be designed specifically for Figure Skates; now superseded by the INCREDIBLE EDGER
My company remains ICEskate Conditioning Equipment (ICE) and for information on our line of equipment please go to
Incidentally, while a small company, we are the actual designers and manufacturers of our unique range of equipment. We are not a distributer. I’ve put my many years of engineering expertise to use especially for skaters. I’m in no hurry, I do it a my pace.
So what is going to be the role of skateology.com?
I intend to maintain this skateology site for technological communication with the Ice Skating World, seeking information and offering information regarding all technical aspects of ice skating. And, of coarse hearing from my revered ‘Skateologist’ customers will be especially appreciated.
